Who is family mediation suitable for & how can it help?

Support for families at different stages of separation.

Whether you are recently separated, seeking divorce or have agreed a settlement and then have encountered new difficulties prior to your divorce being finalised, mediation can offer you a way to resolve issues in a calm environment where conflict is reduced by the presence of the mediator as a neutral third party.

Family mediation can help resolve a wide range of family disputes, including child arrangements, financial matters and wider family issues.

Separation

Help to put emotions to the side and assess each person’s future needs.

Child arrangements

Shared time with parents including term and holiday time, special occasions, living arrangements and child welfare.

Financial arrangements

Assets and liabilities including savings, debts, property and pensions.

Pet arrangements

Agreeing shared time, because family separation from pets can be hard too.

Wider family issues

Family mediation can also assist with issues involving other family members, including grandparents.

What mediators do

Mediators facilitate communication and help you navigate your way through a stressful time.

What mediators do not do

Mediators do not give legal or financial advice and that should always be sought independently of mediation.

How long does family mediation take?

A flexible process shaped around your circumstances.

The process starts with an initial 45 minute MIAM for each participant. If your situation is suitable for mediation and both parties are happy to proceed, you will then move into mediation sessions.

Your mediation timeline

Mediation is not a one size fits all process. The time taken to reach accord or agreement will vary depending on your unique family circumstances.
